Tamil Goodson

Tamil Goodson, a veteran educator at Meeting Street Schools, is the Founding Principal of the network’s first rural, public charter school to open in Fall 2023.

After graduating with a degree in elementary education from the College of Charleston, Tamil spent eight years teaching and pouring love into scholars at Chicora Elementary in Charleston then Meeting Street Academy-Spartanburg (MSA-S). Most recently, she served as an Academic Dean for grades 2-5 with the MSA-S Mavericks, attaining some of the best student achievement results across the network. She has one of the strongest track records of transformative academic growth at Meeting Street Schools.

“As I reflect on my education career at Meeting Street so far, I am grateful to be part of an organization where I am in a state of constant learning and growth,” said Goodson, “We are mission-driven and results-oriented, and the MSS mission is engraved on my heart and flows through my veins. I often ask myself: How can we provide this same experience to more children in the world?”

As the Founding Principal of MS-Jasper & Beaufort, Tamil has been spending much of 22-23 “in-residence” at other Meeting Street Schools, visiting some of the best public charter schools in the region, and becoming enmeshed in the rural Lowcountry community. Born and raised in a small town in the Upstate, she knows just how important it is to have relationships across the community and cannot wait to serve the families of Jasper, Beaufort and Hampton counties.
