Three schools awarded Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards April 21, 2026 Meeting Street Schools

Three Meeting Street Schools received top honors from the South Carolina Department of Education for outstanding academic performance and progress during the 2024-25 school year.

Meeting Street Academy – Spartanburg earned the highest recognition, a Palmetto Gold Award. The middle school at Meeting Street Elementary & Middle – Brentwood and Meeting Street Elementary – Burns each earned a Palmetto Silver Award.

Just 378 schools statewide received a Palmetto Gold or Silver Award, which recognizes schools for students achieving significant growth and achievement as well as for making progress in closing the achievement gap.

“We’re honored for our schools to be recognized among the best in the state,” said Josh Bell, president of Beemok Education. “This recognition is a result of a collective effort, from students who show up and work hard every day to staff who are committed to their success to the families who want the best for their children. Working together, there’s nothing that’s impossible.”

The award is based on 2024-25 South Carolina School Report Card ratings. Meeting Street Academy – Spartanburg earned a Palmetto Gold Award with an “Excellent” rating in academic achievement and a “Good” rating in student progress.

Both the middle school at Meeting Street Elementary & Middle – Brentwood and Meeting Street Elementary – Burns earned an “Average” rating in academic achievement and an “Excellent” rating in student progress, which met the criteria for a Palmetto Silver Award.

“We congratulate these schools on striving for excellence and delivering impressive results for their students,” said State Superintendent Ellen Weaver.
